Could anyone out there help me getting my (mixed) network to run. This
is genuine, I am new to Linux and NOT a troll !!!
I have a home office set up with a few windows boxes and one good box
which I have assigned to become my " pilot plant " into Linux (Suse
10.1) - which installed perfectly and runs fine as a stand-alone unit.
Even better, it runs in a dual boot with an old Windows and my Windows
partitions are mounted on a /windows directory from where all the
files are perfectly visible and accessible.
My problem : I can't seem to be able to set up a network with my other
(windows-) boxes. I have followed the detailed steps described in a
good Web page, but for some unknown reason, it does not seem to work,
I can't succeed to " see " anything of my other boxes, their disks and
files in the Konqueror file manager nor does my Linux box become
visible in the Workgroup as seen from any of my other boxes.
(To make things easier, I have set the same user name/password for all
the boxes, but this too did not help)
Is there any good (detailed) reading on this subject, or is there
anyone of you experts willing to " spoonfeed " the necessary knowledge
to me ? Thank you all !
If your mixed network is XP Pro then you might like to consider NFS instead
of using samba, do a search on M$ web site for "Windows Services for UNIX"
This only applies if you are using expensive pro.
