Re: 2Wire Setup Help

Hi,
Perhaps not much help but check step by step what's working. Check
your /proc/bus/usb devices file and what driver is active for the device.
There is a module for 2 wire devices, but check if it support this specific
device. 2 wire devices come in many sorts(check dallas semiconductor).
Good place to start is reading linux device drivers 3rd edition (online or
oreilly book). And be a bit more specific what is working and you want to
know.
I got dallas temperature 2 wire devices working on my suse PC,but also
installed it on a small embedded PC with realtime linux. You are using a
different device, but anyway, the basic bitbanging has a lot in common.
Checkout the sourceforge 2wire project code with fuse.

I'm trying to help my brother hook up two computers to the internet using
a
2wire setup from SBCGLOBAL. The 2wire residential gateway is hooked up
to
a Windows box running XP. From there it goes to a second computer thru a
phone line which uses an adaptor to hook up to this computer using a USB
connection. This computer is running OpenSuSE-10.1. Also, the residential
gateway has a wireless transmitter/receiver. The third computer connects
to a wireless receiver/transmitter thru the USB port. This computer dual
boots W2K Pro and SuSE 9.2. I'll probably upgrade this to 10.1 soon.

So how do I configure the two machines to connect to the 2wire thru the
phoneline to USB port and thru the wireless to USB port in Linux ??

I did get the dual booting machine to install the cd from SBC and it
hooked up no problem. I had to supply the serial # and encryption key #
from the
bottom of the gateway.
Should have mentioned that I got the cd to install on the W2K drive, not
SuSE.
That was all I needed to do. Also, I went to the
two wire web site and found that they say there should be no problem
using
this (2wire) device in Linux. Unfortunately they don't offer any
assistance for doing this. There was a faq reguarding this setup for a
Red Hat user so I did get a little help there however I'm hoping someone
using
SuSE can give me their experience/knowledge regarding configuration.

Thanks in advance.
