get SUSE 10 unleashed. It comes with an installation bootable DVD.
Did that yesterday, since I had already decided to go with SUSE. Then the
fun began! I'm a newby, so please be gentle.
Today I did the rather time consuming install, and online update. That
completed, the machine rebooted in some unknown video mode (1280 x 1024 x
Unknown) that my Samsung 713n LCD monitor absolutely refuses to display.
Instead I get a small rectangular box that flots around the screen and
complains about a non-optimum resolution. I've never seen such obnoxious
behavior from a piece of hardware before!
Undaunted, I went thru the install again, and as the last step of hardware
configuration I set the resolution to 1024 x 768 x 70 which is well within
the display capabilities. When SUSE rebooted, I had the same dialog box
pop up!
My question then is, can I somehow change the display mode without
reinstalling SUSE yet again?
I'd sure appreciate any guidance anyone can offer.
Regards,
Steve
Your monitor is capable of displaying 1280x1024 and this is what you
should use. If the fonts are too small just increase the size.
To change the settings go into console and type
su
<root password>
init 3
This will take you to console mode. You can also get there with typing '3'
at the grub screen during booting.
Log in as root.
next type
sax2
and set up your monitor.
If your monitor is not listed choose 17" LCD monitor and choose a
vertical refresh of 60Hz. You can probably go as high as 75Hz but there is
little point with a LCD monitor.
After leaving sax2 you can get back to graphics mobe by typing
init 5
.
