Re: How's 10.2 look ?

O.K. Thanks for the responses. Since I'm borrowing this computer I will
update it first as mine will take longer. On this box I have an older
install of 9.2 as well as a newer install of 10.1. They are each on
separate drives and I need all that room to make life easier. Total disk
size is ~20GB + ~30GB. So a new, fresh install on both drives will give me
~50GB, which is more than enough for this borrowed (parents) box. This
will allow me to give everybody, including nieces (3) and nephew as well as
mom and dad there own desktop with plenty of space for whatever they need,
as well as my own desktop with ample space.

You could try out the LVM installation. That way you won't need to
figure out where goes what. Otherwise go for / and swap on the 20GB and
30GB on the other one.
Then I would add a /media/family and symlink /home/*/family to it, so all
people can enjoy the shared data there, yet still have private space
that nobody can see (exept root)

If you need even more privacy, you can use encryption on a users
subdirectory. That way they can put data in there and even root can't
read it. Truecrypt is availabel on 10.2

As far as any menus that I don't like I'll customize to my tastes. I
usually install 4 or 5 window/desktop managers and so I can switch betwenn
them depending on what applications/uses I need.

As you add more then one user, look at /etc/skel

Thanks again for the input. I'll let you all know how it goes when I
upgrade to 10.2 in a few days.

What I do is first install without a seperate /home, then mount /home
later. What you will apreciate is that it will copy your /etx/passwd, so
you and your family won't need to enter their password again.
