Actually, I was able to find the version 9 plug-in for linux through
google.
I followed the instructions to install it, but still no joy. I changed
the name of the old flash plug-in so that it wouldn't be found, but when

Extract the file and you'll have a file called libflashplayer.so.

Go to /usr/lib/browser-plugins
Become root.

Rename the file that has the same name.
Put the new one there.

Restart Firefox. That's it.
The 7 plugin is like 2 kb while the 9 is maybe 6 kb.


JOY! The problem was that I was putting all the new stuff in
~/.mozilla/plugins. When I renamed the version 7 libflashplayer.so
in /usr/lib/browser-plugins (which you had instructed, but which I had
glossed over), then the version 7 ceased to shown up, and I had only
version 9. AND, break.com and youtube.com now work.
