Sure there has to be a way to add gnome through the Software Manager without having to reinstall the entire OS

It should be as easy as placing a check mark next to gnome in the package groups.

Also, to load gdm instead of kdm I would go into the /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager file and change the DISPLAYMANAGER=kdm
to DISPLAYMANAGER=gdm
.
