10.2 a few thoughts

I did an update from 10.1, and found this was not great, I had a stable
machine but slow & sluggish with 20 updates that wouldn't install and
unable to add new software or access to DVD or CD (no permission) although
I could burn ok.
To get access to DVD and CD drives I deleted entries in fstab (I would like
to know why this worked as it was set the same as my laptop 10.0)
What ever I tried failed to get updater working, in the end the solution was
to init 1 (all other levels still wouldn't kill the process locking me out
of the software manager) I then removed Zen, cleaned out strange locations
for updates, reference to DVD different to what I installed from, re
created the update sources, updates and software installs now work.
The performance was much better but not great, so took out some entries for
beagle, much better, the icing on the cake was going back and adding a
source for the Nvidia drivers.
I had a pleasent night yesterday just using the machine with out any issue.
I don't like the new menu system used on the KDE desktop, that went after 3
day giving it a try.
The Future, I like using Rose Garden but it has timing issues with SuSe that
I am at a loss at how to resolve, so I will be looking at XEN to add
distro's that handle music better, I am also looking at FC6 and would like
that on my main box as well, so any thoughts or tips on using XEN would be
welcome.
