I can get both network cards working by doing

/sbin/ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0

in the Shell. But why can't I do it through KNetworkManager?

Is there a config file I can just configure to start up both network
cards?

Yes, use Yast not KNetWorkmanager. Tha last one is not intended to be used
in your situation. In Yast you can/must disable KNetworkManager and then
automatically you can/must configure your two network cards. You have to
enable forwarding (traffic from your laptop to the Internet and vice
versa). Don't forget to configure routing; it is a bit hidden.

When you say disable KNetworkManager you mean uninstall it?
Also, when you say configure routing, I take it you mean Yast2->Network
Services->Routing, I only ask because you say it's hidden, and that
doesn't seam to be, so I'm wondering if there is some routing config
stuff I'm missing.
