Change file system on new HD?

If UPS can make it through all of the Ice and Snow, I should be receiving
a new Seagate 80 GB hard disk today. I intend to use it only for
automated backup chores, as some on this group have kindly explained.

I believe that new hard disks come formatted as FAT32. Would there be an
advantage in re-formatting it to ext. 3?

Thanks,

Godzilla
