Hi,
[OS]
SLED 10.0
[Problem]
tab completion as root is broken. When I press the tab key to manuever
through directories, the cursor jumps a tab over. Like the tab key is
actually mapped to a real tab. Also, when using the up / down arrows to
get to a previosly typed command i receive ^[[A. This doesn't happen
for the other user accounts on the workstation, only for root.
How can I fix this without wiping root's profile?
What is $TERM set to?
Should be 'xterm' under X, or 'linux' in a VC.
Theo
Yes, both. xterm in X and linux in an alternate console. Any otherSee bash(1) under READLINE
suggestions?Have a look at the readline files /etc/inputrc and ~/.inputrc
disable-completion (Off)
If set to On, readline will inhibit word completion. Completion
characters will be inserted into the line as if they had been
mapped to self-insert

it wouldn't work. In fact, the files in the home directories are
completely commented and the file in etc does not have any completion
entries. I added disable-completion (Off) to the file and there wasn't
any change.
