Re: ieee1394 firewire cameras

gordon,

ever get this working? i got no advice, sadly, but actually would be glad
of suggestions for firewire cameras precisely for doing computer
vision/robotics.

Is there a program I can use to test a firewire camera under SUSE
10.2/KDE?

"kino", 'dvgrab', ...?

kino does not acknowledge existence of the camera and it often hangs when I
change ieee1394 settings. Capturing shows a blank screen and records no
frames to disk. Very unstable.

The camera is "The Imaging Source" model DFK 31af03, an industrial
color/monochrome 1024*768 device. I am not sure if it supports DV. I set
kino to use raw1394.

I will try dvgrab tomorrow. It is not listed in YaST2. It's 3:15am here.
Kopete sees nothing - I guess its looking for a USB webcam.

I have downloaded & attempted to compile coriander but it will not do the
"./configure" step.

Why didn't you use the version which comes on the DVD?

I used CD's. It shows up as being installed in the K-menu but does not run.
I have removed and re-installed, to no avail.

It complains about libdc1394 not being installed (It
is).

It searches the "development"-Version?!

Only after having no luck with the distro version. Now YaST2 does not admit
to having it available as a CD or internet option.

good luck, Holger

Thank you. I will be needing luck. Concentrated effort does not seem to be
enough. Still reading & learning. I am hoping to introduce a client to
Linux for use in his robotic control bizz.
