Re: Need second HD advice

After a few false starts (like getting an 80 GB second drive and finding
that it wouldn't fit the slot) I took Houghi's good lead and ordered a
320GB Hard Drive identical to my main drive for use in backup only.

Going into YAST, this drive is recognized as /dev/sdb 298.0 GB
just as my first boot drive is recognized as /dev/sda 298.0 GB

Now, my question is: for use as a backup should I format it with YAST as
one partition or more than one? And, why?

I go for as large partitions as possible. That would mean that you won't
have to deal with a too small partition at any point. What I also would
do is mount it read-write only when doing the backup. Place it 'read
only' all the other time.

The 80GB you can use to play around with. What I have is the following
setup:
HDA contains / for 10.2
HDB to play around
HDE with / for 10.0 (will be used for future versions)
HDE with /home
HDF for backups

Or something like that. More on backups:

I am also planning on buying a dedicated HDs for all my movies. The only
thing I am missing is a bit of money to buy 12 750GB drives and a
Termaltake Tai Chi with cooling.
9TB of space should be enough for everybody (for now). :-D

Well, actualy I would love to have 2 of them, or even better have a 19"
rack with 3 computers, some extra stuff and about half of it (20 U)
filled with diskspace.

With that I gues 54TB will be possible and could even be boosted to
100TB. :-p
