I would try with mplayer/mencoder

$ man mencoder

From the manpage:

$ mencoder -tv driver=v4l:width=640:height=480 tv:// -o tv.avi -ovc raw

To play the video before encoding, just use (e.g. Channel 4)

$ mplayer tv://4

version of suse do you use because it does not look like my card
