I've got 7mbit down and 1mbit up (and see these speeds almost all the

Being as you are doing multiple installs, and have a broadband
connection, why don't you d/l the DVD ISO image, and either use it to
burn an installation DVD, or create a local repository to install from?
It would certainly be much quicker than what you're doing now.

True... but that would be too easy! :)

I didn't plan on multiple installs though. All on one machine as I juggle
around drives and partitions and figure out just what I want installed on my
final workstation install.

Is there a way to find the fastest server, or is it just trial and
error. I'm located in Calgary, AB, Canada. Geographic locale usually
bears little on the speeds I see from the servers.

That which is fastest on any given day, will not necessarily be so on
another day, depending on traffic, so T&E is it.

Not looking for an all out "what's the fastest", just some way that I can
figure out where I can install from reasonably reliably.

It would really be nice if there were a "mirror server" that the installer
could query, presenting a list to the person doing the install. There has
been a couple times where none of the mirrors I wrote down worked, so I had
to reboot to Windows (ick) and write down different ones. The list could be
a lot more dynamic than the current webpage.
