Hello, for me this does nothing. Instead of one I get two identical panes
saying "internal part" and "body part" several times but the corresponding
message is not displayed. Clearly there is something wrong.

Yes, clearly 'something' is wrong. So first, you haven't told us which
version of kmail you're using ?? Second, send yourself an e-mail so we can
eliminate the possibility you have a corrupted email. One easy way to
correct this problem is to uninstall the application (kdepim3) and remove
the mail folder. Then reinstall.
