Re: HP PSC1310 Series printer

Group,

I have an HP PSC1310 connected to my OpenSUSE 10.2 PC. This is one of
the HP multifunction devices. It prints, copies and scans.

I install the printer through YAST or CUPS and can print.

When I open Kooka, the scanner is not available. So, I go to YAST and
install the scanner. The scanner is then available in Kooka and I can
use it.

However, when I go to print, there is no output at the printer or
blinking lights on the printer. Even though the printer is still listed
in the CUPS server and the printer configuration of YAST, nothing seems
to make it to the printer.

I can then reinstall the printer, but the scanner isn't usable. This
ying-yanging back and forth, just doesn't seem right. Is there anything
I can check or do?

Thanks

First, I reinstal1ed the printer through YAST. Then I could use the
printer as expected in all programs. Then, the scanner couldn't found by
the sane backend of Kooka (same as before).

I then found the hp-toolbox utility. I can use this to fire off the scan
program, and Kooka starts with the scanner loaded. No loss of printer
functionality.

Thanks for the suggestions, but placing the hp-toolbox icon on my
desktop was the easiest route.

My solution:
1. Install scanner through YAST.
2. Install printer through YAST.
3. Place hp-toolbox icon on the desktop.
4. Use the SCAN button on the Functions tab of the hp-toolbox to start
Kooka.
