Hi:

I am running Open SuSE 10.2 on a home built PC with an AMD 64-3700
chip. I have a single NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT video card. The system
dual boots with Windows XP (Sorry I have a couple of apps,
particularly Endnote X, that require XP).

I am running dual flat panel monitors. On the analog port, I have a
17" Samsung SyncMaster 710N running at 1280x1024. It is an analog
only monitor. On the DVI port I did have a 19" Samsung SyncMaster
910T also running at 1280x1024. I had the dual monitor setup working
flawlessly in SuSE using the nVidia-supplied driver.

I recently purchased an Acer 19" wide format AL1917W at a great
price. It's native resolution is 1440x900. So, I am moving the
Samsung SyncMaster 910T to another computer that has my last CRT
monitor. That PC does not support the AL1917W.

After some playing around with the nVidia drivers, I am now running
the dual monitors OK in XP.

But I am stuck in SuSE 10.2. I can boot fine and it logs on via the
SyncMaster 710N which is the "primary display." I have a double-wide
screen on the 710N and can scroll it left to right, but the AL1917W
is blank. When I run sax2, on one occasion I got the green nVidia
logo to pop up briefly on the AL1917W but it quickly disappears. The
video setup on the 710N looks normal though I always cancel as I do
not want to mess up at least having it "half work." In every case, I
get a "No Signal" pop up on the AL1917W while I am in the sax2 video
test. I infer from that that the AL1917W may have briefly gotten some
signal but it is not usable(?).

I am totally lost in the options on dual monitors. I did *NOT* make
any changes in SuSe before swapping the AL1917W in. Perhaps a mistake
but I am still pretty new to Linux.

Is running dual monitors with two different resolutions even possible
here? I can go back to the two Samsung monitors but would rather not
as I have no particular place to use the AL1917W.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jess
Hi
Have you tried dropping into run level 3 and re running sax?
Backup the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file then run
sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia
To redo from a clean xorg, or run nvidia-xconfig (I've never used this)
