Hi all, on my 10.2 sound just stopped working. It just QUIT out of the
blue, no error messages, no boot warnings, no popups issued by
multimedia applications.
I had made no changes to my system, except a few updates issued a
couple of days ago, but I hadn't used sound for a few days so I can't
be 100% sure that it stopped working right after the update [What
packages were updated? Oh my, I don't remember, I (used to) trust SUSE
updates, I (used to) believe only M$ patches would screw up your
system - anyway, jack and mplayer were listed, if I remember well -
and yes I was stupid anyway]
Volume was ok, all settings fine, no sound came out of the speakers.
Only symptom: the speaker icon had disappeared from the tray. Yast
sound configuration screen reported that driver snd_via82xx was being
used, but lsmod did not list it. Modprobing the driver and restarting
the card brought back the speaker icon, but still no sound
Tried to re-run alsaconf, tried to reinstall the whole damn alsa
system, to no avail. Any hint? My VIA chipset was working perfectly up
to a few days ago.
Thanks for any hint
I had this same thing happen on my 32bit system. I had to go into yast and
uninstall the sound card then reinstall it. It would work fine till the
next reboot then I would have to repeat the process all over again. Now I
have a 64 bit system with no more problems.
