Monitor won't power off

Suse 10.1 + updates, and "generic vga monitor" (suse couldn't detect it,
although it's a Mag Innovision Circuit City special. I've turned on
powersaving in Yast and on "Configure Desktop". The monitor will screen
blank, and then black after the set minutes, but it will not power down
into standby mode.

Any suggestions?
