There is Suse 9.2 installed, but from what I saw, support for that version
has ended in 2006.
I'm not going to run on 9.2 because of security. They haven't beed upgraded
since 277 days - as Yast2 says. Don't ask me why nobody has upgraded those
machines. The only packets that were installed outside yast, was php5,
apache2 or maybe postfix.
My question to you.
1) Is is safe to upgrade those machines ? The only access I have i ssh,
because they're 1k km away from me :) Moreover, they run 24/7 and such
upgrade -must- succeed - about 120 users per machine. I've got only 2-3h
window, where I can disable services and proceed with upgrade. After that,
such machines -must- be working
2) I not online upgrade, than what do you suggest ? Could I just somehow
upgrade only critical components ? ie. kernel, apache, postfix...? I mean
some seleive upgrade - at least to the last stable version
I'm listening with you, Marek, because I have the same issue... 9.3
server running fine, but I don't want to keep it going without updates.
In my case, the machine is close at hand, and I have a boxed set for
the 10.2 release. Do I undate the existing installation? Will that do a
new 10.2 install of the same packages? Or, should I start configuring a
new machine with 10.2 and swap machines?
