In article <6587d$46117a21$cf9b1316$2113@xxxxxxxxxx>,
godzilla@xxxxxxxxxxxx says...
A few days back, my SUSE 10.2 machine locked up and would not allow me to
log in for reasons yet unknown. I have two physical 320 MB hard drives.
One was used with one of the partitions for my root and another
partition for my home directories. The second physical drive (sdb) was
being used only to back up data periodically. All was fine until I was
locked out.
I attempted to do a repair, using the installation DVD, and it did not
work.I was still locked out. Then, I tried doing an update, which was also
of no avail. Finally in frustration I did a complete re-install - against
my better judgment. The system is now working normally, EXCEPT that my
second physical drive is not recognized at all. A number of data files
which have been copied there are needed to restore everything as being up
to date.
Should I attempt to edit the /etc/fstab file manually? If so, I am not
certain about some of the parameters I should enter like "mount point" and
whether that disk was formatted as "ext3" or "ext2" or "reiser."
Any experienced advice in this area would be very welcome.
Thanks,
Godzilla
First thing I'd do is download the hard drive diagnostics from the
manufacturer of your drive and verify that the drive is still good. It
may have failed and was your problem to begin with.
