Network Questions for basic setup

Hi. I recently received a second computer (350MHz freebie) and decided to
set up a network. I'm fairly familiar with configuring ethernet cards for
standalone boxes and I thought I understood simple LAN set up. However, it
seems I'm missing something. So, before I hit myself in the head too many
times, I'll ask for your advice.

Here's a description of what I want to do. Computer one is the outward
facing box. This is my workstation box. I connect to the net from here
using dsl. I use dhcp for my ip address. Connection is thru eth0 using
dhcp to get my address from my provider. This card is connected to a hub,
which is connected to the dsl box.

Computer 2 is my internal computer I'll call 'db' as this runs a data base
which REQUIRES a fixed ip address. To install SuSE I set up the card
(eth0) to use dhcp. Both this card and eth0 on computer one are connected
to a hub. The hub connects directly to the dsl box. But now I want to
change that so that I use a fixed IP address to make the database software
happy. I still want to connect to the internet for installing software &
updating. So I need to use computer one as a gateway. Also, once I get
the network set up correctly I will want to use some lan software to
communicate 'between' these computers but one step at a time.

For now I'd like to set up masquerading to accomplish my immediate goal of
being able to connect to the internet from both computers while having a
fixed ip address on the second (db) machine. So I've got the second card
ready to add to the first computer as eth1. This will connect to eth0 on
the second box and will have fixed ip 192.168.1.2. The default ip of the
hub I wish to use is 192.168.1.1 so I'll leave that alone. Now here comes
question one. I'm pretty sure that if I connect two nics together (eth1 of
computer 1 and eth0 of computer 2) I need to use a cross-over cable. If
not can I use a hub in between with two regular cables ?? If so which
ports do I connect with on a four port hub ?? Previously I hooked the dsl
box to the uplink port and the two computers to ports 1 @ 2. Now where do
I connect the eth1 card (inward facing box 1) to on the hub & where do I
connect the eth0 card (outward facing box 2) to on the hub ??

How do I configure eth1. Which card needs to be set to enable port
forwarding ??

So, to sum it all up I've got 2 computers. I want to use a hub between the
two computers to connect them. I want to connect to the internet on the
first computer directly thru the dsl box. I want to connect to the
internet from the second computer thru a hub to the first computer and then
out to the internet using port forwarding. Also, this internal box needs a
fixed ip.

Computer one has two nics eth0 & eth1. Computer 2 has one nic eth0.
Connection between the two computers is thru a 4 port hub.

Now that I hope I made this simple scenario abundantly clear how do I set up
my network in 10.2 using Yast. A simple step by step response is what I'd
like. Pretend no card is connected now and I'm starting from scratch on
both. I've got 3 nics, two computers, one 4 port hub, one dsl box and a
bunch of straight cat5 cable connectors. Both computers are running
openSuSE 10.2 and both have SuSE Firewall 2 installed. Now have at it.
Please keep it simple, detailed and assume I'll understand precisely what
to do when you explain it.

Of course this is the first post and I'm sure there will be a few but a long
journey begins with a single....err...a....free beer :-) LOL

P.S. Please try to explain in a step by step approach using Yast for
configuration in your own words. Believe me, I rtfm'd enough already. Now
I need clarification. Thanks.
