The Ubuntu 7.04 uses a newer kernel. It also booted up faster than

Applications came up faster in Ubuntu, and not having dug into the
code, I don't know exactly where to place the credit.

You can compare openSUSE 10.3 alpha with Ubuntu Feisty.
Application start is kind of tricky.
Konqueror in SUSE that is preloaded shows up on the spot if it is called
from task bar, and has no home page to load, but that makes boot time
longer. The versions of applications are important too.

Ubuntu is definitely geared more toward the GUI interface.
It has a terminal to be sure, but their version of file commands is
reduced from what I am accustomed to use. For instance, it has a
"ls" but a "l" just returns "command not found."

The l is alias which is trivial to create. Default Kubuntu including
repositories lacks a lot of CLI applications. For new users it is OK, they
will like it, but I would like to see how it works afterwards, and that is
the main reason to install it.
