Re: Two day experiment

<grin> This is where my rant on choices in Suse came from. Suse
tries to be, in my opinion, all things to all users.

And I think it can be.

My suggestion was a front screen that gave you three levels of
install. The first might be called "Ubuntu", the second "Suse",
and the third "manual"... <more grins>

One choice to many, I think.

But the hardware situation with Ubuntu isn't all that bad. It
recognized wireless stuff Suse does not, and I've seen it installed
on strange hardware.

It probably will be the other way around as well. Some things will be
recognised in openSUSE that won't be recognised in Ubuntu. That is when
bugzilla comes into action. Identify the hardware and explain that it
works in Ubuntu. If you can even recognise what trhe reason is, even
better. Giving a solution is obviously the best.
This goes for both Ubuntu and openSUSE.

The disadvatage that openSUSE has is that its users were used to just go
to the store and buy a box. The fact that they are now activaly asked to
help identify problems and participate is very strange to most.

many still see it as: hey it is a company, so THEY should solve it.
Obviously that is not the case anymore. (Hence the new name openSUSE,
instead of the old SuSE)

I'd agree. Suse remains my favorite. I think that the development
team is learning and with some strong leadership (so it doesn't go
off in five directions at once) it will be just fine.

'Development team'? That is you and I baby, you and I. The people at
SUSE are mere coders that put our ideas into code. No input from us, no
output from them. A while ago there was a discussion on how the patterns
must be devided. Many things that were proposed have been put in place.

Three words: feedback, feedback. feedback and feedback (Hey, that is 5
words)

In my opinion if you have bugs down there that are so bad
you need to use a pesticide, you're not gonna get laid anyway.
