Do you know how Parallels compares to VMware Server?
I tried VMware once and was unable to get it running. I tried Parallels
and that worked out of the box. You can download it and try it out for
two weeks for free.
The fact that I was unable to install VMware was most likely more my
fault. I also never looked for a solution.
Yes, it is a new PC. You can get the old files in as if it were a new
PC, over network.
Can you image the old HD to the new virtual one? That's what I would like
to do to save the trouble of having to install applications and copy files.
Yes, but understand that it might not do a lot of good, as it is
different hardware, so it might utterly and completely fail. Also it
might be better to do a new installation anyway, because you only need
two programs.
So I assume SuSE can read and write FAT32 paritions without requiring any
3rd party applications. Is that right?
It is SUSE and the answer is yes.
Other than the documentation, is the boxed set the same as download? Is
the documentation pretty good?
No. The boxed set has much more software on the dual layer DVD. Although
after you have added the repositories and ran an update, they will be
identical
I have no idea what you call 'pretty good' I would say it is perfect,
you might say it sucks. I just look through it for about 2 seconds and
never look at it again.
Do you think Linux is harder to use than Windows, or just different? Just
curious, since it sounds like you've used both quite a bit.
My personal opinion is that Linux is much easier to use then Windows.
Many things I can easily do in Linux, I am unable to do in Windows.
True, but with the virtualization safety net, it won't matter so much if it
doesn't. I expect though, that once everything is set up and sorted out, it
will probably satisfy 80 to 90% of my computing needs (maybe more). The
show stoppers are likely to be all the electronic gagets I have (digital
camera, digital voice recorder, iPod) and their associated software.
Well, the time you have spend asking questions and waiting for answers
is time you will never get back and could have been spend testing and
finding the answers yourself.
A camera will most likely have a USB connection. Plug it in and it
works. No need for extra software. I have much software with CD's and I
never use the CD's. No need.
