Re: Is AppArmor really necessary?

Good evening Peter,

Peter Bradley inscribed thus:

As far as removing "AppArmor" is concerned, if you have not used
it, that is created a profile, then it is not active !

Not sure about that. Doesn't it come with some default profiles? I
know it's caused me grief by suddenly taking against some process
for reasons best known to itself (Apache was the first one that
suddenly alerted me to the beast's presence, but it's subsequently
engaged in fights against Acroread and one or two other things) -
and I never touched the thing, until I had to in order to allow
programs like Acroread do really scary things like read pdf files.

However, I'm using SuSE 10.0 and I understand that AppArmor is much
improved since those ancient times.

Peter

I am using SuSE 10.0 at the moment and have not had any such issue
with "AppArmor" !! I thought that you were supposed to use the
examples as templates to create your own profiles......Mmm

I will have to go and have another look at it. Its something that I
was given a demonstration of a while back. I decided then that its
use didn't apply to me as a single user. ie I am the only person that
uses this machine.

However I can see great advantages to someone that has to administer
multiple users across multiple machines. That was how it came
across !
