Re: Cable download speeds

My local cable company offered a 1 month trial of their Internet Service

noticing a download speed variation depending on what browser I use, this
was never a concern with DSL because it peaks at 265 kB/s.
These tests are the same 160 Mb file from the same source.
SuSE 10.2 system
With Opera ( my default ) 370 kB/s
" Konqueror 1200 kB/s
" FireFox 1190 kB/s
Debian etch system
With Iceweasel 1200 kB/s.

These tests were run in the space of 20 minutes.

Any ideas why Opera is slow or is this normal ?? Thanks, Bob
I've used cable for years, and I've noticed that downloads (even
initially accessing a site) varies widely in speed. Time of day, number
of users accessing (both loading the remote site and cable load
sharing), routing, etc. all change the throughput. Even the speed test
sites vary.
