You may want to read the Knode documentation as it is very similar to Pan,
at least as to functionality. Here's a link:

http://knode.sourceforge.net/doc_en_0.3.2_online/index.html

Briefly though, scoring let's you assign a score to the article based on
rules you create/apply. For instance you may wish to view articles with
certain keywords. Also, scoring allows you to avoid viewing articles from
certain posts from scumbags that have no useful purpose (i.e. trolls
like 'Philip') Essentially scoring is a 'rating' method allowing you to
customize what you are viewing.... This rating can be in regards to word
count, keyword, sender, article size, etc.... So you can 'killfile' all
articles from the previously mentioned troll by creating a killfile and a
rule to apply it when the senders name is 'Philip'...

Or you may just want to view all articles that discuss certain subjects. So
you would sort the articles by there score and proceed from there.

(Here's a link to explain 'killfile':
http://www.hyphenologist.co.uk/killfile/killfilefaqhtm.htm)

Also, a Google search will provide additional links regarding killfile.

As for caching articles, this is a method to keep articles in your local
cache so you don't have to re-download them later. Usually this is to save
time and/or so as not to delete them automatically when a certain time has
lapsed. There is a default time that articles are kept and then they are
deleted. You can change this time in the settings menu.

P.S. I am no expert but these explanations are based on my use of Knode.
Not Pan. They should be correct but if I'm not 99.999% certain I like to
leave a disclaimer. Others can comment as well.

Thanks for the detailed explanation and links. They were very helpful
and have given me a much better idea of how to use these features. Looking
forward to trying them out now!

Thanks again. -Pat
