AMD and Asus motherboard compatibility with Linux

Looking to by a new PC box
AMD Athlon 64X2 4600 CPU
1 Gig or more RAM
Asus M2A-VM motherboard
with ATI X1250 video on board
on SATA 160G drive
Or
AMD Athlon 64X2 4600 CPU
1 Gig or more RAM
ASUS M2N4-SLI motherboard
adding the Geforce 6300 video card
Now I get hints in reading google searches on the
motherboard numbers that there is some incompatiblity
in installing Linux.
I was hoping to install OpenSuse 10.2 but if it won't
work then I have to find a list of compatible new motherboards
that are [Vista Ready] ready for new technology and
yet Linux can work easily with them.
Will only kernel 2.6.20 work with them?
The Question is : has any one installed OpenSuse on
such an arrangement easily?
I'm getting hints that acpi=off and noapci settings
degrade performance but might be a fix, and that it is a south
bridge code broken on the motherboard.
There is nothing at Asus, Novell Suse database doesn't
yeild any information.
I've gone through google.com [web] and google.com/groups
and no clear information that I can proceed with such
a machine.
