Thanks, Very interesting.
Both are equaly stable. The HUGE advantage of SLES and SLED is that it
has a 7 year lifespan. That means that you don't need a new installation
within this timeframe. openSUSE has a lifespan of 2 years.
I don't understand this. Does that mean that you need to totally
rebuild openSUSE within 2 years?
No, it means that after 2 years (or 7 years in the Enterprise case) no
more security updates are issued, so it is wise to intsall a newer
version. Obviously iof you know what risks you havem you can keep
running it for as long as you desire.
Security updates for software can still be done, but are not automated.
In casu, you will need to do a rpm -Uvh which can be easy for some
things and very hard for others.

Microsoft says, "Where do you want to go today?"
Apple says, "Where do you want to go tomorrow?"
FOSS says, "Are you coming, or what?
Is there a link with some good information about how security updates
work in openSUSE? It sounds like within a period of 2 years critical
updates are applied automatically, which can either be a good or bad
thing, depending on whether applying the update affects the stability
of the system. After 2 years you need to manually apply the security
updates?
I'm a little confused :P
Thanks,
