Updating apps to most recent version

How do I update the apps on my OpenSuse box to the most recent version?
I've got Subversion installed, version 1.4.0. This version is nine months out of date; there have been three major releases since then. If I use Yast and search for updates, it does not show a version of Subversion which is more recent.
