You did install the firmware from that add-on CD right?

yes. I wish I had taken notes because right now I am hazy about the
effect. I believe it did get me so far as to have the interface recognized
so eth1 was 'seen' via ifconfig. but (as I recall) iwconfig still showed
'no wireless extensions'.

I shall have to launch a full-scale attack again. I will
reinstall - I messed it up when I put on kubuntu - and take
the trek again.
