If you are only using KDE why use KDM? It might be easier to set KDE as
the default desktop and chose to boot runlevel three for now.
The effect of this is to point the files xinitrc, etc, to start KDE when
you issue startx.
The command startx will accept a number of switches that KDM or GDM will
not. I've tried to pass the same arguments before using KDM and it's a
mess.
IOW, this would be an intermediary step to simplify the process. Once
you get it working then you could try to go back to runlevel 5 and use
KDM, which I would not. In general the small amount of time saved is
trivial. If you have numerous switches simple make a simple script to
run X with the switches you want. And if you have a video problem you
can still get as usable console (tty) to sort things out.
In my case I simply login and issue my little script...
dox
cat /usr/local/bin/dox ----->>>>
startx -- -dpi 96 -depth 24
(see man startx)
I wish I could help more but I'm not of fan of that type of desktop
modification/complication so I don't use that stuff.
