Yast update oops.........

I did a software update today and updated about 400 packages. This is not
unusual as I have a lot of repo's on my list. The update seemed to go o.k.
After using the computer for several hours after the update I thought I'd
add one new application. I clicked on the Yast icon in the kmenu but
nothing seemed to happen. I checked for running processes and didn't see
Yast. So I tried again. Still nothing. So I thought, to be certain I
wasn't having a brain failure, I tried launching Yast from a konsole. This
is the message I got:

yast2
libicui18n.so.34 => not found
libicuuc.so.34 => not found
warning: the qt frontend is installed but does not work
Qt GUI wanted but not found, falling back to ncurses.
libicui18n.so.34 => not found
libicuuc.so.34 => not found
warning: the ncurses frontend is installed but does not work
You need to install yast2-ncurses to use the YaST2 text mode interface

Now, I didn't do anything unusual and I verified that I've got
libicui18n.so.36 and libicuuc.so.36 installed, which should satisfy the
above mentioned prerequisite. I also reinstalled using the rpm command
yast2-ncurses. And why would the installed qt frontend fail ??

At least I can download manually at this point and get advice here. I don't
use anything like smart or apt-get so I'm contemplating
downloading/installing one of these if it is necessary.

Any useful suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.
