solution for eth0 config lost when using 2 nic

Greetings,
This is about a setup of a HP Proliant DL380 G5 with Open SuSE 10.2
download version.
All was working, until a second ethernet cable was inserted on the 2nd
nic of this DL380.
eth0 and eth1 were configured on YAST, Network Devices, Network Card.
This server worked very well routing both networks, a few minutes.
Then, during the tests, without any change, eth0 loose its
configuration: ifconfig -a shows
the eth1 IP Address and all, but eth0, nothing.
And sometimes, after restarting the server, it seems eth0 and eth1
changed mac address
--
It could be just one more case with udev changing things on SuSE and
the file
/etc/udev/rules.d/30-net_persistent_names.rules
and so I did what is recommended at such cases:
1) on the above file deleted the line with "eth0" inside
2) on YAST, Network Devices, Network Card deleted both ethernet
configs
3) restarted the server
4) configured again at YAST both the nics, and Finished, etc.
using the long eth-id-00: format when selecting the ports
--
but, again on a terminal ifconfig -a shows eth0 without IP address set
--
the solution is
do NOT USE the "NetworkManager" option of YAST, Network Devices,
Network Card
use the "Tradicional Method with ifup" cause this one does work and
the above does some
strange things on Proliants with SuSE 10 udev
