Re: wireless connection keeps dropping

As a test last night I hooked up my work notebook to the companie's VPN.
When I got up this morning it was still connected and working fine.

There are a couple of other homes with wireless and can see them when I
start up on my linux laptop. All connections get dropped and the only
way to get them back is to reboot the system. ifdown/ifup has no
effect. Reboot is the only way to go.

I don't think it is the router.

Appearing to work fine and actually working fine are not the same thing.
I bet that you took the tech info off the side of the box. It may not have
much to do with what is actually going on in your system.

first of all is who is buffalo??? There are lots of companies out there
manufacturing wireless equipment and selling it to other companies to
relable. These companies are out to sell for the lowest price possible and
relisbility is costs money. I work at fixing problems like this over the
telephone. The techs who work with me help out enough people to see a
pattern. The most sold equipment ( Linksys, Belden and others similer )
seem to have all ( or most ) of the problems. Wireless can be very tricky
stuff.

To check to see if your Buffalo is the pproblem try running your system
for a while on cable. In other words, bypass the wireless equipment
completly. If it then works, either replace the wireless with better
equipment such as a wired system. You should still skip the above brands.

If this does not work, it could the modem, telephone lines or cable,
network card, or ?????????

I hope this helps.
