A part of Mplayer, Mencode is very good, very fast and very easy to use
when clipping avi files and putting the clips together.

Especially it is easy when operated through a GUI frontend which are
numerous. The one I use is Kmenc15.

All the above is directly installable with YaST in openSUSE when repos
Guru and Packman are available.
