While investigating further with my "GRUB 21" problem, I got someI assume the drives are connected and jumpered properly. I've seen strange things when they're not! For example a WD drive has to be changed from "single" to "master" when you add a second drive set to "slave".
interesting findings.
D: Interesting findings:
1) On bootup, I can't see the BIOS is reporting about HDD2. I have
tried all combinations of BIOS (CMOS setup) configurations, with AUTO,
USER and LBA, LARGE , AUTO. Nothing made this HDD2 reported
2) But, if I boot either from Windows or OpenSuSE (as reported in C
above), I could see both Windows and OpenSuSE could see this HDD2 and
its contents.
Do you have a "BIOS extension" installed to allow the BIOS to work with larger drives? If the BIOS has LBA setting it should at least accommodate a 137GiB drive. (128GB in drive size)
Now the questions to the community:If the BIOS can't find stage2, grub will report an error.
1) How could I make my BIOS see the HDD2 at the boot up ? I think
that is the root cause of the problem of reporting "GRUB 21" error.
Is there a BIOS up-date available from the motherboard maker?
Another possibility is to get a PCI hard drive card which includes a BIOS that can use larger drives.
