Is there anything that can be done to speed this up?
Exept from getting a faster line? No. I do it in the background, so I do
not realy care wether it takes 2 seconds or 2 hours. Also when I want to
install something and it needs to be done, I am most likely working on
something else anyway (Like reading up on the program I am about to
install) that I am not sitting the, watching my screen.
Most of the time I do not even notice when it is done. However that is a
personal way of working and not an excuse of the speed.
Why was the updater in Suse 9.3 so much faster? Can't this whole
process be done in a better way? I don't know, perhaps for each new
update put a new file in the repository or something, so that Yast can
download only the newer ones and not the entire gigantic xml file each
time?
Install 10.3 when it comes out somwhere this or next week. They have
been working hard on it, so I have heard (yet not tested).

They say pesticides have been linked to low sperm counts.
In my opinion if you have bugs down there that are so bad
you need to use a pesticide, you're not gonna get laid anyway.
