O.K. I've got a pretty complete installation of 10.3 on my main server
and
I want to add another drive. How do I do that ?? I want to physically
add the drive and boot into this install to reformat and partition the
drive.
Both drives are IDE not scsi. I'm going to add 4 more scsi drives
shortly but that is for another day.
A step by step answer would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Yes I know that. What I was actually concerned with is whether or not
booting up my system after installing a new drive would cause any problems
booting up as the kernel would not recognize the new drive (i.e. it's not
formatted correctly and not in fstab)...
I'll just give it a try.
I've come late to this thread and what I say may be useless,
but why not just boot the machine and then use the manual
tools such as fdisk (see man 8 fdisk). Linux will see the
drive physically even if it can't read it or mount it.
Then use mkfs (man 8 mkfs) to format the disk.
