Me too. I've also downloaded the DVD. I'll likely be installing
it next week. Perhaps the boxed set will come at Christmas...


I took this opportunity to do a fresh install.. I had upgraded on my
Sony PCG-GRT390ZP notebook from 9.3, to 10.0, to 10.1, to 10.2.. Each
upgrade had their own set of challenges to overcome.. the negative was
the time invested in doing upgrades vs fresh installs... The positive is
that when you need to overcome those challenges, real learning occurs...

Fresh Install was flawless on this hardware, and it was good to start
'clean' without any of that 'Waxy Computer Buildup'.. I am very pleased
with it..

As an aside, several colleagues running Vista are insanely jealous of my
Compiz/Fusion setup and are impressed at the performance of OpenSUSE on
a 3 year old laptop... They spared no expense on their new laptops and
they are, in their words, sluggish, and feel bloated....

They also got sucked into MS Office 2007.....

I didn't have the heart to tell them what I paid for my Office Suite...

Good for you! I downloaded the DVD the other day and burned it.
Tonight I did a trial install on my Lenovo T61. 10.3
installed, but missed the screen setup and didn't do the
wireless.

The first can be fixed (I did it in 10.2) as nVidia has a driver. The
second is strange because the release notes
say that they have a driver for this Intel wireless chip
but the install didn't recognize the chip.

I'll mess with it tomorrow.

The Lenovo is the toughest machine I have for installing openSUSE.
When I get that rolling I've got three other
machines to go. Those are mostly easy (or have been in
the past.)

I'll post a more detailed experience on the T61 when I
get things up and running.


A boxed set would be nice... I used Ktorrent to download the DVD
version of it but I found that 1) The checksum didn't match. 2) When I
tried to burn it to DVD K3b encountered an error during the write.
(Tried different DVD's and I have successfully burned DVDs before)


I would suggest, if you haven't already tried, to burn it at a slower
speed.. My copy also faield the checksum test, but I felt confident
enough to go ahead and thus far have suffered no ill effects...

BTW: I was just notified today (Oct 30) that my box set which I ordered
on Sept 30 has been shipped...

My boxed set, ordered two weeks before the first shipping date,
arrived yesterday...

An update on the T61: I gave up on openSUSE because it couldn't find
a driver for the screen (easy to fix, there is one on the nVidia site)
and it could find no driver for the wireless.

I used Ubuntu 7.10 instead. After the update cycle everything worked
with no problems.


However, I've got openSUSE 10.3 up and running on my test desktop with
no problems at all. In a few days the server and the home machine will
get switched over.
