This is the part of openSUSE that is the most frustrating. There are
updates available for many of packages installed on my system (180
updates in all) but when I go to apply these Yast comes back with a list
of a dozen or so "unresolved dependencies". In some cases certain
packages are "locked". In others, it "can't find installable providers
of ...". In most cases there are options to "ignore" or "delete" or
some other to resolve the issue. But that seems like a good way to hose
the system.
Any suggestions? I don't quite understand why these are occuring,
since I would expect any needed (dependent) packages would be available
from the standard repositories as well. Are there some others I need to
add to fix this?
Thanks for any help. -Pat
Pat,
One thing I have noticed in my own use of the 10.3 64-bit openSUSE Updater
Applet is that sometimes the applications will not install, and then I get
a cryptic message. What I do then is to update the individual applications
one at the time. This has resolved the problem the two times I have gotten
that particular odd message.
With the newest GIMP, the application simply would not install. I looked
closer and saw it was a developer's version, so I actually unchecked that
repository. About two hours later, the regular version popped up from a
different repository. That version updated just fine.
The only other problem I have had with strange messages was fixed by my
inserting the original DVD in the drive. I wish the message had
said "Insert your DVD," but it was just giving hints.
Overall, the ease of using the 10.3 updater applet is much smoother than
anything I dealt with in 10.2. Maybe this will help your situation.
Good Luck!
