I installed Windowmaker and did the same test. There's no auto-mount
there either.

Could you do a test with all windowmanagers, just to be sure? Some of
them are mentioned here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X_window_manager

Quite probably. It's a pity that they didn't actually get the auto-mount
tool available for other GUI users.

I would say for all users. Automount has, IMNSHO, nothing to do with
CLI, GUI or any of those things.
