Re: Upgrade from 9.3 to 10.3 completely botched - won't boot

I need help.

I upgraded my 9.3 system to opensuse 10.3 by 1) downloading the ISO
and burning it to a DVD (no MD5 chechsum errors etc). 2) Booting from
this DVD - no problems there 3) selecting upgrade (for some reason
this is not the default action on an existing suse box) 4) resolved
minor conflicts with regards to Mplayer and 5) the installer started
installing the packages 6) serious headache and pains begin:

I left the installation to run overnight - when I looked the screen
this morning, there was an ominous error regarding the boot loader
configuration. I have no idea what it meant, selected "start from
scratch" as an option and that seemed to complete, because it asked me
for a reboot.

At the reboot, I got an Error 15: file not found (or similar) - the
only option to select from the boot menu (openSuse 10.3, opensuse 10.3
failsafe, etc.) that does not throw this error is when I select a
"grub" command line.
What's really frightening is that I can't seem to boot from the DVD
anymore either. The DVD boot process seems to kick-in the hard drive
boot sequence immediately. How do I force this so I can at least re-do
the installation process from scratch???

What the hell is going on? I understand that I do not have a lot of
error code information to tell you, but you have to appreciate that I
don't have a computer to connect to the internet anymore now. I am
doing this from memory from a work computer....

What I don't understand is that all the packages were installed (or in
the process of installing when I left it), so there should not be any
major hardware issues. This was also nothing wrong with the original
installation of 9.3 and I would like to think that nothing got
"unsupported" from 9.3 to 10.3???

I would appreciate any help you can give me. There are about a billion
pages on grub errors and howtos, but which ones are going to help me
with this specific problem??
Time to wipe the system and do a clean install of 10.3.
