Printing issue with .PDF files

SuSE 10.3, networked to HP4100N laserjet.

Can print A4 pages no drama in all programs except any .pdf files.
Setting in CUPS is for A4 pages only, setting in Yast -> printer is for
A4 pages.

Where do I look to find how to stop .pdf files trying to be printed in
'letter' size? Google wasn't really my friend in this issue.

Any guidance will be appreciated.
