I just found out that it's these Yast shows as broken and unable to
update:
kernel-bigsmp
systemtap
translation-update (2)
xscreensaver
yast2-cd-creator
yast2-samba-client
Software packages, not modules.
But it doesn't seem like many of these are particularly important, so
this may be a red herring to the real problem.
Indeed without the yast-loginfo this can mean anyhing.
I'm trying to get some data from the log files, but so far we can't
get anything copied off the server at all because nothing will mount.
We're trying to get it to see an external hard drive, but so far we
haven't been able to make that work. The server's in a Blade rack, so
they're going to try to link into the blade chassis and see if they
can make the drive connect from there and see if we can at least get
some info off the thing.
I would also like to know if the kernel can load the modules (the
kernelmodules), the drivers for NIC, filesystem and so.
Without the NIC modules there are no network interfaces and without the
networkinterfaces SSH and Apache wil not start. Without the nfs/filesystem
modules nothing can be mounted etc.
If(?) this is the case:
There is a kernel-bigsmp package on the dvd to reïnstall the kernel, this
package can be copied and installed with the rpm commend. Before reboot
check the messages the rpmcommand gives, check if the
initrd-<version>-bigsmp and System.map-<version>-bigsmp are in the /boot
directory. Check if the /boot/grub/menu.lst points to the proper kernel.
Hope this helps.
