Can print A4 pages no drama in all programs except any .pdf files.
Setting in CUPS is for A4 pages only, setting in Yast -> printer is for
A4 pages.

Where do I look to find how to stop .pdf files trying to be printed in
'letter' size? Google wasn't really my friend in this issue.

I'll asume you're using Acrobat 7.0, like me. I'm using it on a 10.0 SuSE.

Most probably, you PDF document is a letter format, not A4.
Check the original document size with File/Ducument Properties (CTRL-D).
The size of an A4 is 297x210 mm or 8.26x11.69 in (approx).
A letter document would be 11 in high, not 11.69in. And it's a bit wider.

If you're indeed dealing with a letter document, go to File/Print and clear
the option 'Choose paper source by PDF paper size'. Set Page Scaling to 'Fit
to Printer Margins'.

Hope this helped.
