I just found out that it's these Yast shows as broken and unable to
update:
kernel-bigsmp
systemtap
translation-update (2)
xscreensaver
yast2-cd-creator
yast2-samba-client
But it doesn't seem like many of these are particularly important, so
this may be a red herring to the real problem.
the first two, well at least the first one, looks importand. I believe a
computer needs a kernel to run.
