I must finally give in and say that this version does not

Ugh, I should have replied to this before sending my previous post.
None-the-less, here it is.
I do agree that YaST is wicked cool now. That said, the reason why I'm
sticking with SMART is that YaST installs each RPM immediately after it is
download. In theory this shouldn't be a problem, however if your connection
is lost or if you are doing something else which causes X to crash or kills
your session (or whatever), then you are left with an inconsistent system.
This happened to me once or twice when I was downloading RPMs that were
crucial to the general operation. I can't remember which ones, maybe a KDE
update. Anyway, I had a bugger of a time trying to get the remaining RPMs
and installing them manually. With SMART this wouldn't happen. SMART waits
for all the selected RPMs to be downloaded first. Then they are install in
a batch. Now, if YaST had an option to "download all then install", I would
switch back.
Again, just my $0.02 CDN :)

I thought(*) yast would continue in the background with or without an
X connection. I know I can type on a command line: yast -i mplayer
and it will load up the repositories cache and download the program.
(I did this.)
So in theory - you could go to run-level 3 and update software also.
(*) Please note that this was my impression - and I may be (most
likely) am incorrect.
