Re: dependency hell

Do you have the URL for it?

Ye gods. Don't you folks ever try anything?

Sure I did.

I have 10.3 installed. I have gimp 2.2 installed via Yast.

So have I

I go to Software Management and search for gimp.

OK, done that

Up comes a list of items with gimp in the name.

OK, I see that.

One of these is the new gimp, version 2.4. I click on gimp-2.4

OK, I did not realize that it was called gimp24 instead of gimp

Up come a bunch of dependency problems.

Nope, just one and that is not a dependency problem

I try to think like a newbie and try to delete 2.2 first.

Yep. It unselects them and told me so as well.

Up come a bunch of dependency problems.

Bot with me.

Try it.

Sorry, exept for the first popup, I see no warnings and it installed
just fine

I am NOT saying that I can't resolve these in one or another
way. I can. I know what I'm doing (most of the time, anyway).

Well, that is great and if not I would realy like to help

I am saying that this is NOT a problem in Ubuntu or in any of
a bunch of other distributions. It should NOT be a problem
in openSUSE. Newbies will not be able to figure out what to
do.

What if I do not get this issue? The only thing I got was a message it
wanted to uninstall something. Unfortunaltly I was looking for the
dependency hell so I skipped that one too fast.

It has a name. It is called DEPENDENCY HELL.

Well, that could very well be and unfortunatly I am unable to reproduce
it and until somebody tells WHAT EXECTLY they see, there is nothing
anybody can do about it.

Keep denying it exists. That will be very helpful.

I am not denying it doesn't exist. I keep saying that I do not see it
happening. Running 2.4 here now and I see no problems whatsoever, sorry.
